Calling all artists to paint to support creek

Written By Rosemary Tayler

On the first Saturday of October, Save Long Sault Creek.ca is hosting an outdoor painting session where Barbers Lake flows into Long Sault Creek.

Aleta Karstad, a well-known and highly respected conservation artist in eastern Ontario, has invited artist friends from near and far to join her to capture the beauty of this area on canvas.

Bringing artists together to paint the outdoors to inspire and create awareness for wilderness protection is a passion for Aleta. Among numerous other projects, she has planned and participated in art retreats with the Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.

“I see the need for a growing movement to involve artists to help protect natural areas in this region,” she said. “The beauty of the landscape around Barbers Lake and Long Sault Creek is one such area that needs to be celebrated and preserved.”

Artists of all ages and backgrounds are invited to set up their easels from 9 am onwards on Saturday, October 5, in the vicinity of 418 Concession 9A Dalhousie near Highland Line, McDonalds Corners. Local residents and visitors are welcome after 12 noon.

A Chili Supper will be held at the AG Hall (196 Camerons Road, McDonalds Corners) from 6 to 8 pm. The painting session is free for participants and onlookers. The Chili Supper is $20 per serving (chili, salad, desert, tea, coffee). Meal reservations can be made by emailing info@savelongsaultcreek.ca. Artists are invited to display their works at the AG Hall over the supper time.
